Chocolate Chip Buns Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (approximately 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Preparation
-
Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until the ingredients are well incorporated.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, about 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough forms and is slightly sticky.
-
Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Incorporate the chocolate chips into the dough, kneading until they are evenly distributed.
-
First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
-
Shape the Buns:
- Punch down the risen dough and place it on a floured surface.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, shaping each piece into a ball.
- Arrange the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced about 2 inches apart.
-
Second Rise:
- Cover the dough balls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for 30-45 minutes, or until they double in size.
-
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Egg Wash:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create the egg wash.
- Gently brush the tops of the risen buns with the egg wash.
-
Bake the Buns:
- Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
-
Cool and Serve:
- Allow the buns to cool on a wire rack.
- Serve them warm or at room temperature.
