Seafood Mac and Cheese Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups of dry macaroni
- 6 oz. claw crab meat
- 8 oz. shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 oz. sour cream
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 spring onion, finely chopped
- 1 can evaporated milk
- 8 oz. block sharp white cheddar cheese, grated
- 4 oz. block mozzarella cheese, grated
- ¼ cup panko bread crumbs
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Shrimp: Peel and devein the shrimp if necessary.
- Cook the Macaroni: Boil the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain well and transfer to a large mixing bowl.
- Add Sour Cream: Add sour cream to the warm macaroni and stir until the noodles are well coated.
- Incorporate the Crab Meat: Gently fold in the crab meat, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
- Chop and Set Aside Ingredients: Finely chop the spring onion and grate both the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Set aside for later use.
- Cook the Shrimp: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the shrimp and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the pan, chop it slightly, and add it to the macaroni mixture.
- Sauté the Onion and Make the Sauce: In the same pan, add the chopped spring onion and sauté until tender. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir, allowing the mixture to cook for about a minute until slightly browned.
- Add Milk and Cheese: Gradually pour in the evaporated milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Slowly add the grated cheddar cheese, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
- Combine Mixtures: Pour the cheese sauce over the macaroni, seafood, and sour cream mixture. Stir well to combine all ingredients. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Prepare for Baking: Grease a baking dish and spoon the mixture into it. Top with the grated mozzarella cheese, then sprinkle the panko bread crumbs evenly over the top. For a hint of color, lightly sprinkle with paprika.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
