Apple Fritters Recipe

There’s nothing quite like a fresh, warm, and perfectly glazed apple fritter! This recipe will show you how to create fluffy, sweet apple fritters with a delightful cinnamon flavor and a crisp, golden crust. They’re the perfect treat for any time of day, and they’re surprisingly easy to make at home.

Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp. applesauce
  • 2 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Canola oil, for frying

For the Icing:

  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare for Frying: Place a cooling rack over a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Set it aside, as this will be where you place your fritters to cool and drain excess oil.
  2. Make the Batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
    • In a separate bowl, combine the milk, eggs, and applesauce. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined (do not overmix).
    • Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed.
  3. Heat the Oil: In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of canola oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature for frying.
  4. Fry the Fritters:
    • Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, flattening each slightly with a spatula. Fry a few at a time, ensuring you don’t overcrowd the pan.
    • Fry each fritter for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fritters to the prepared cooling rack to drain and cool.
  5. Make the Icing: In a small bowl, whisk together the icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  6. Glaze the Fritters: Once the fritters are slightly cooled, drizzle or dip each one in the icing. Allow the icing to set for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

These apple fritters are best enjoyed fresh and warm. Serve them as a delightful breakfast treat, an afternoon snack, or a dessert.
