Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe
Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 8 ounces brown mushrooms, minced
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup beef broth
- 8 ounces Provolone cheese slices, chopped (use 6 oz if you prefer less cheese)
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
Instructions
-
Cook the Ground Beef:
In a large cast iron skillet, add the ground beef and cook until a deep brown crust forms. Break apart the beef, letting about half of it develop a crust for added flavor.
-
Add Vegetables:
Remove the browned beef from the skillet (leaving any remaining fat) and add butter, onions, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Allow the vegetables to brown for 1-2 minutes without stirring, then stir and let them brown for another 1-2 minutes.
-
Combine Ingredients:
Return the beef to the skillet with the vegetables. In a small cup, mix the beef broth with cornstarch until smooth.
-
Season and Simmer:
Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and the beef broth/cornstarch mixture to the skillet. Simmer until the mixture thickens, so that about 75% of it sits above the liquid, about 3-5 minutes.
-
Add Cheese:
Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped Provolone cheese until it melts into the mixture.
-
Serve:
Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted brioche buns and serve warm.
Tips
For an extra savory touch, toast the brioche buns with a little butter before adding the beef mixture. Enjoy your Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes!
