Toffee Butterscotch Cake

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt

For the Toffee Butterscotch Sauce:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Directions

Preparing the Cake Batter:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Start with the dry ingredients, then add buttermilk, and continue alternating until combined. Do not overmix.
