Gingerbread Snowballs Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (57g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tbsp molasses
  • 2 ¼ cups (279g) all-purpose flour
  • Extra powdered sugar for rolling

Directions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

2. Prepare the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter using an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and molasses. Mix until smooth and well combined. Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, adding it in portions and mixing thoroughly after each addition, until a dough forms.

3. Shape the Cookies:

Scoop approximately 1 tablespoon of dough for each cookie. Roll the dough into balls and place them evenly spaced on the prepared cookie sheets, leaving about 1 inch of space between each one.

4. Bake the Cookies:

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges turn lightly golden. Be sure not to overbake to maintain a soft, chewy center.

5. Coat in Powdered Sugar:

Allow the cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheets for about 1 to 2 minutes. While they are still warm, gently roll each cookie in powdered sugar to coat. Afterward, transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. For an extra snowy effect, roll the cookies in powdered sugar again once cooled.

6. Serve and Enjoy:

These gingerbread snowballs are perfect for pairing with a warm cup of tea, coffee, or hot cocoa. Their melt-in-your-mouth texture makes them a delightful holiday treat to enjoy with loved ones.
