Old-Fashioned Goulash Recipe

Old-Fashioned Goulash

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb macaroni
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • Garlic salt, pepper, chili powder, and hot sauce to taste
  • 2 (14.5 oz) cans whole stewed tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • Tomato juice as needed

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni to al dente according to package directions. While it’s cooking, brown the ground beef and diced onion together in an extra-large skillet or a Dutch oven.
  2. Drain the beef mixture and season with garlic salt, pepper, chili powder, and hot sauce to taste.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the stewed tomatoes with a potato masher, then add them to the beef along with the ketchup.
  4. Drain the macaroni and stir it into the beef mixture, ensuring everything is well combined. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  5. If you prefer a juicier goulash, you can add tomato juice to your desired consistency. This is especially useful for leftovers, as the noodles tend to absorb the liquid over time.
