crunchy pecans, and velvety chocolate frosting. Inspired by the famous “turtle” candies, this dessert combines sweet,
salty, creamy, and crunchy in every bite. It’s perfect for parties, potlucks, holidays, or whenever you need a dessert
that impresses effortlessly.

Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Turtle Toppings

  • 1 cup chopped pecans (toasted for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Make the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13×18-inch sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter with water and cocoa powder. Bring just to a boil.
  4. Pour the hot mixture over the flour mixture and stir until combined.
  5. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Make the Frosting

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter with cocoa and milk.
  2. Bring to a light boil, then remove from heat.
  3. Whisk in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Immediately pour warm frosting over the warm cake.

Add the Turtle Layers

  1. Drizzle caramel sauce evenly over the frosted cake.
  2. Sprinkle toasted pecans across the top.
  3. Scatter chocolate chips while the frosting is still warm so they soften slightly.

Description

This Texas Turtle Sheet Cake is everything a dessert lover dreams of: ultra-moist chocolate cake, buttery frosting that
seeps into every corner, and layers of caramel, pecans, and chocolate that create a true turtle-candy experience. It’s rich
but perfectly balanced, indulgent without being overwhelming, and large enough to feed a crowd.

Tips

  • Toast the pecans for 5–7 minutes at 350°F to enhance their nutty flavor.
  • Use homemade or thick caramel sauce for the best results.
  • Frost the cake while warm to help the frosting spread smoothly.
  • Add a sprinkle of sea salt for a salted caramel twist.
  • For extra gooeyness, swirl caramel into the frosting before it sets.

Correction

If your cake turns out too dry, try reducing the baking time by 2–3 minutes, adding an extra tablespoon of buttermilk for
moisture, or mixing the batter less to avoid overworking it.

Enjoy

Serve warm for a melty, gooey turtle experience, or chill for a firmer texture. Enjoy this decadent Texas delight with a cold
glass of milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
