Apple Fritters Recipe
There’s nothing quite like a fresh, warm, and perfectly glazed apple fritter! This recipe will show you how to create fluffy, sweet apple fritters with a delightful cinnamon flavor and a crisp, golden crust. They’re the perfect treat for any time of day, and they’re surprisingly easy to make at home.
Ingredients
For the Fritters:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tbsp. applesauce
- 2 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- Canola oil, for frying
For the Icing:
- 2 cups icing sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare for Frying: Place a cooling rack over a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Set it aside, as this will be where you place your fritters to cool and drain excess oil.
- Make the Batter:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the milk, eggs, and applesauce. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined (do not overmix).
- Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed.
- Heat the Oil: In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of canola oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature for frying.
- Fry the Fritters:
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, flattening each slightly with a spatula. Fry a few at a time, ensuring you don’t overcrowd the pan.
- Fry each fritter for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fritters to the prepared cooling rack to drain and cool.
- Make the Icing: In a small bowl, whisk together the icing sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Glaze the Fritters: Once the fritters are slightly cooled, drizzle or dip each one in the icing. Allow the icing to set for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy!
These apple fritters are best enjoyed fresh and warm. Serve them as a delightful breakfast treat, an afternoon snack, or a dessert.
