Recipe for Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and thinly sliced
 - 3/4 cup heavy cream
 - 1/2 cup whole milk
 - 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
 - 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
 - 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
 - Salt and pepper to taste
 - Fresh rosemary for garnish

Preparation:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
 - Prepare the Potatoes:
- Thinly slice the potatoes, aiming for about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a mandoline slicer can help achieve uniform slices.

 - Make the Cheese Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
 - Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
 - Stir in the heavy cream and whole milk, mixing well.
 - Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then add the shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan. Stir continuously until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens.
 - Season with ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste.

 - Assemble the Dish:
- Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
 - Arrange half of the potato slices in the bottom of the dish, pressing them down slightly.
 - Pour half of the cheese sauce evenly over the potatoes.
 - Add the remaining potato slices on top, then cover with the remaining cheese sauce.

 - Bake the Potatoes:
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
 - Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25 to 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

 - Garnish and Serve:
- Allow the dish to cool for a few minutes before serving.
 - Garnish with fresh rosemary.

Tips:
- Enhance the Flavor: For a richer taste, consider adding a mix of Gruyère, Swiss, or Fontina cheeses.
 - Add Ingredients: To add depth, layer in caramelized onions or crispy bacon bits between the potato slices.
 - Prevent Over-Browning: If the top begins to brown too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil for the remaining baking time.

Enjoy this creamy and delectable potato gratin, perfect for any gathering!
