Best Homemade Pizza Dough and Pizza Sauce

Pizza Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 4 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Proofing The Yeast: In a bowl, mix sugar, ½ cup of warm water, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Mixing The Pizza Dough: Combine flour, salt, and Italian seasoning (optional). Add to the yeast mixture along with 3 tbsp olive oil and another ½ cup warm water. Knead for 5 minutes until dough is stretchy.
  3. Letting The Dough Rise: Oil a bowl, place the dough in it, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.
  4. Stretching The Dough: Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough into a 12-inch circle.
  5. To Make Pizza: Preheat oven to 450°F. Oil a pan or sprinkle with cornmeal, add your stretched dough, toppings, and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.

Homemade Pizza Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup grated onions
  • ¾ tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 3 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tomatoes: Break down the tomatoes into chunky pieces using hands, shears, or an immersion blender.
  2. Cook the Aromatics: In a saucepan, heat olive oil and cook onions, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes for 3-4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Simmer the Sauce: Add tomatoes, sugar, and salt. Simmer for 30 minutes, adjusting seasoning as needed.
  4. Store or Use: Use immediately on pizza or store in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for 3 months.
