Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples

For the Crumble Topping:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Make the Crumble Topping: In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the cold, cubed butter and blend until crumbly. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Cake Batter: In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and sour cream until just combined. Fold in chopped apples.
  4. Assemble the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the batter.
  5. Bake: Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Serve: Slice and enjoy as is, or serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tip: This cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
