weeknights, family dinners, or potluck gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (hamburger)
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheddar blend)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 300 g) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with oil or butter.
Add the chopped onion and cook until the beef is browned and the onion
    is soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Season the beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  4. In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth.
  5. Layer the casserole by placing sliced potatoes in the baking dish,
followed by cooked beef, soup mixture, and shredded cheese.
  6. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with cheese on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45–50 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, until the
potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Description

This Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole is creamy, rich, and deeply satisfying.
The potatoes absorb the savory flavors of the beef, while the melted cheese
forms a delicious golden topping. It’s classic comfort food that always
feels warm and homemade.

Tips

  • Slice the potatoes thinly so they cook evenly.
  • Mix cheddar with mozzarella or Monterey Jack for extra creaminess.
  • You can use cream of chicken soup instead of mushroom soup.
  • Add vegetables like peas, carrots, or corn for more nutrition.

Correction

  • If the potatoes are undercooked, cover and bake for 10–15 more minutes.
  • If the casserole is too thick, add a little extra milk to the soup mixture.
  • If it tastes too salty, use low-sodium soup and cheese next time.
  • For a lighter version, use lean ground beef or ground turkey.

Enjoy

Serve this Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole hot with a crisp green salad
or steamed vegetables. It’s a comforting, filling meal that the whole family
will love. Enjoy every cheesy bite!
