Churro Snack Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups Honeycomb cereal
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • ⅓ cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Cereal Base: Place the Honeycomb cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  3. Cook the Caramel Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture begins to boil, then continue to cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add Vanilla and Baking Soda: Remove the saucepan from heat and add the vanilla extract and baking soda. Stir well; the mixture will bubble and expand.
  5. Coat the Cereal: Pour the caramel mixture over the cereal and toss gently to ensure an even coating.
  6. Add Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, sift together the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the cereal and toss again until thoroughly coated.
  7. Bake the Snack Mix: Spread the coated cereal onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even toasting.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the cereal cool completely on the baking sheet, then break it into bite-sized pieces. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh.
