Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast: A Classic Comfort Dish
Ingredients:
- 1 jar of dried beef slices, rinsed thoroughly and chopped
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 tbsp flour
- A pinch of cayenne pepper
- 2 cups milk
- Sea salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste
- Toasted bread
Instructions:
- Prepare the Beef: Rinse the dried beef slices thoroughly to remove excess salt. Pat them dry with a paper towel and chop into small bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
- Make the Sauce: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and a pinch of cayenne pepper, whisking continuously for about 45 seconds until the mixture is well combined and cooked through.
- Add the Milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture starts to thicken.
- Combine the Beef: Add the chopped beef into the saucepan and stir occasionally. Let the sauce cook for a few more minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Season and Serve: Taste the mixture and add sea salt and freshly cracked pepper if necessary. Serve the creamed beef over toasted bread immediately.
