Homemade Delicious Meat Pie: A Comfort Food Classic

“Wow! I first tried these at Christmas time and haven’t stopped making them since!”

This Homemade Delicious Meat Pie is a rich and hearty dish that quickly becomes a family favorite. With a savory ground beef and vegetable filling wrapped in a buttery, flaky crust, it’s the perfect comfort food for any occasion—from weeknight dinners to special gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1/4 cup ice water

For the Filling:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 carrot (finely diced)
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust

In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Slowly add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough just comes together. Form into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

2. Make the Filling

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it into crumbles. Drain the fat. Add the onion, garlic, and carrot. Cook until vegetables are soft, about 5–7 minutes. Stir in peas, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool completely.

3. Assemble the Pie

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out half of the chilled dough and press it into a 9-inch pie dish. Add the cooled filling evenly. Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the top. Seal and crimp the edges. Cut a few slits in the top to let steam escape.

4. Bake

Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

5. Cool and Serve

Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy a true homemade classic.

Tip: Leftovers can be reheated the next day for an equally satisfying meal!
