Levain Bakery NYC Cookies Recipe Review

Today, I tried my hand at making the famous Levain Bakery NYC cookies, and they were an absolute hit! Using the recipe from
Modern Honey, I followed every step meticulously to evaluate the original flavor and texture before deciding on any future tweaks.
If you’re contemplating making these cookies, I can confidently say they’re worth the effort!

Here’s how I prepared them: I measured out the dough into 5-ounce portions, baked them at 410°F for about 10 minutes, and skipped the chilling time.
The result? Perfectly gooey, soft-centered cookies with a slightly crisp exterior that are simply irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cold Butter (cut into small cubes)
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups Cake Flour
  • 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 3/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Chocolate Chips
  • 2 cups Walnuts (roughly chopped)

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugars: Mix the cold butter and both sugars on medium speed for 4 minutes until creamy and well combined.
  2. Incorporate the eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  3. Add dry ingredients: Gradually mix in the cake flour, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Fold in the mix-ins: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
  5. Form the dough balls: Divide the dough into 10 portions, each weighing approximately 5 ounces. Shape them into balls.
  6. Bake: Place the dough balls on a baking sheet and bake at 410°F for 9–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden while the centers remain soft.

Final Thoughts

These cookies are everything you’d expect from Levain Bakery—rich, indulgent, and packed with flavor. The combination of cake flour and all-purpose flour
gives them the perfect structure, while the walnuts add a delightful crunch. I didn’t find any need to chill the dough, making the process even quicker.

If you’re looking for bakery-style cookies that impress, give this recipe a try. It’s a new family favorite in my house!
