Oven-Baked Taquitos Recipe

Oven-Baked Taquitos

Introduction

Oven-Baked Taquitos are a healthier twist on the traditional fried version—crispy, flavorful,
and incredibly easy to make. They’re perfect as a quick weeknight dinner, party appetizer, or
freezer-friendly snack. With simple ingredients and customizable fillings, these golden roll-ups
deliver big flavor without the mess of deep-frying.

Ingredients

For the Taquitos:

  • 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken (or beef, pork, or beans)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup salsa or enchilada sauce
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 10–12 corn or flour tortillas
  • Cooking spray or 2 tbsp oil

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Diced jalapeños
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Green onions
  • Refried beans
  • Cream cheese (2–3 tbsp to make the filling creamy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a bowl, mix shredded chicken, cheese, salsa, and all the seasonings. Stir until well combined.
  3. Wrap tortillas in a damp paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds until soft and pliable.
  4. Add 2–3 tablespoons of filling onto one end of each tortilla. Roll tightly and place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  5. Lightly brush the tops with oil or spray with cooking spray to help them crisp up.
  6. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden, crispy, and slightly browned at the edges.
  7. Serve warm with sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or queso.

Description

These Oven-Baked Taquitos are crunchy on the outside and filled with a savory, cheesy, perfectly
seasoned filling on the inside. They offer the irresistible flavor of classic taquitos but without
frying—making them lighter, easier to prepare, and much less messy. Perfect for meal prep or a fun
family dinner, these taquitos are endlessly customizable and always a hit.

Tips

  • Warm your tortillas first to prevent cracking.
  • Flour tortillas are easier to roll, but corn tortillas offer a more traditional flavor.
  • Add cream cheese for a richer, creamier filling.
  • Freeze assembled taquitos before baking for convenient meal prep.
  • Flip halfway through baking for extra crispiness.

Corrections (Common Mistakes to Avoid)

  • Don’t overfill the tortillas—too much filling will cause them to burst.
  • Don’t skip the light coating of oil; it helps them crisp in the oven.
  • Avoid baking at low heat or they will turn out soft instead of crunchy.
  • Don’t forget to taste and season your filling before rolling.

Enjoy

Enjoy your delicious, golden, oven-baked taquitos fresh from the oven! Dip them in your favorite sauces
and serve them as a snack, appetizer, or main dish. They’re crispy, flavorful, and sure to become one
of your go-to easy meals.
