Tennessee Onions Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3-4 Vidalia sweet onions
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup finely shredded Italian blend cheese
- 1 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Baking Dish: Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- Slice the Onions: Peel the Vidalia onions and slice them into rounds, each about ¼ inch thick. Keep the rounds intact; do not separate them into rings.
- Arrange the Onions: Lay the onion rounds evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Season: Sprinkle the onions with salt, garlic powder, and oregano.
- Add Butter: Cut the butter into eight equal pieces and distribute them evenly over the seasoned onions.
- Add Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the Italian blend cheese and cheddar cheese over the onions, followed by the Parmesan cheese as the final layer.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown.
- Serve: Enjoy this dish while it’s still warm for the best flavor.
Note:
Italian blend cheese is a combination of two or more types of cheese, typically including Mozzarella, Parmesan, Romano, Asiago, and Provolone.
