The Ultimate Kentucky Butter Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 1 cup butter, cubed and at room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Butter Glaze:

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Preparation:

Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan:

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Thoroughly grease a Bundt pan with butter or shortening, ensuring all nooks and crannies are covered to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients:

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar:

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla:

Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined after each addition.

Bake:

Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan and smooth the top. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Prepare the Butter Glaze:

While the cake is baking, make the butter glaze. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, sugar, and water. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Glaze the Cake:

Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and immediately start pouring the glaze over the cake while it’s still in the pan. Allow the cake to absorb the glaze, which will take about 15-20 minutes.

Cool and Serve:

After the cake has absorbed the glaze, turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve to enjoy this rich and flavorful dessert.

Enjoy!
