Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chicken broth (from a 32-oz carton)
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup white onion, coarsely chopped (from 1 small onion)
  • 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 8 regular-size burger buns, toasted if desired
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (2 oz)

Steps to Prepare

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the chicken broth, steak sauce, and Dijon mustard. Set aside.
  2. Heat a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the ground beef for 7 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the mushrooms, onion, and Montreal steak seasoning. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes until onions are translucent and mushrooms are browned.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the flour browns slightly and smells nutty.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Stir in the broth mixture and bring to a simmer. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Spoon about 1/3 cup of the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each burger bun. Top with 1 tablespoon of shredded sharp Cheddar cheese and place the top bun.

Tips for the Best Sloppy Joes

  • Toast the burger buns for added flavor and texture.
  • Try different cheeses, like smoked Gouda or Swiss, for a unique twist.
  • Serve with fries or a fresh salad to complete the meal.
