Thick and Molten Chocolate Chip Cookies

Introduction

If you love cookies that are crisp on the outside, soft in the center, and filled with gooey, molten chocolate,
this recipe is for you. These thick bakery-style chocolate chip cookies are made with a rich dough, lots of
chocolate, and just the right chilling time to create a molten center every single time. They’re perfect for
family gatherings, dessert nights, or whenever that cookie craving hits!

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Chocolate

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped chocolate chunks (dark or milk)
  • Optional: 6–8 chocolate squares (for molten centers)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cream the softened butter with brown and white sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture into the butter mixture and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and chocolate chunks.
  6. Scoop large balls of dough (about ¼ cup each). For molten centers, press a chocolate square into
each ball and cover it completely.
  7. Chill the dough balls for at least 1 hour, or freeze them for 20–25 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
and bake for 11–14 minutes, until edges are set and centers remain soft.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Description

These thick and molten chocolate chip cookies are a chocolate lover’s dream. The edges are golden and
slightly crisp, while the center stays warm, soft, and filled with melted chocolate. They taste like
classic bakery cookies but even better — rich, buttery, and absolutely irresistible.

Tips

  • Do not skip chilling; it keeps the cookies thick and prevents spreading.
  • Use high-quality chocolate for better flavor and melt.
  • Slightly underbake for the perfect molten center.
  • Weigh your flour for best results.
  • Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top before baking for a gourmet touch.
  • Warm cookies for 10 seconds in the microwave to re-melt the center.

Correction

  • If cookies come out flat, the dough wasn’t chilled long enough.
  • If cookies are dry, reduce flour slightly or shorten baking time.
  • If centers aren’t molten, add a chocolate square inside each dough ball.
  • If cookies crack too much, let the dough warm slightly before shaping.

Enjoy

Serve these cookies warm with a glass of milk, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or enjoy them on their own.
Once you bite into that molten center, you’ll be hooked. Enjoy every gooey, chocolate-filled moment!
