Wendy’s Inspired Chili Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of fresh ground beef
- 1 quart of tomato juice
- 1 (29-ounce) can of tomato purée
- 1 (15-ounce) can of red kidney beans, drained
- 1 (15-ounce) can of pinto beans, drained
- 1 medium-large onion, finely chopped (approximately 1 1/2 cups)
- 1/2 cup of diced celery
- 1/4 cup of diced green bell pepper
- 1/4 cup of chili powder (adjust to taste for desired spiciness)
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin (add more for a deeper flavor)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
Instructions:
- Begin by browning the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Once cooked, drain the excess fat.
- Transfer the browned beef to a 6-quart pot. Add all the remaining ingredients to the pot and stir well to combine.
- Cover the pot and allow the chili to simmer on low heat for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes to prevent sticking and to ensure even cooking.
- For a more convenient option, you can cook the chili in a slow cooker. Set the slow cooker on low heat and cook for 3 to 4 hours.
- Once the chili is cooked, taste and adjust the seasonings if necessary. Serve hot, and enjoy your homemade Wendy’s-inspired chili!
