Perfect for weeknights when you need something warm and filling, this recipe can easily become a staple at your table.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or butter)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth (or water + bouillon)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme (or oregano)
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and sauté until soft and golden, about 4–5 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Mix in tomato paste, paprika, thyme, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the beef with the spices.
  6. Add the diced potatoes and stir to combine.
  7. Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce/Worcestershire. Add the bay leaf if using.
  8. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook on low heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are tender and sauce thickens.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning with extra salt or pepper if needed.
  10. Remove bay leaf, garnish with parsley, and serve hot.

Description

This dish delivers the perfect balance of textures and flavors: soft, buttery potatoes absorbing the savory juices,
ground beef seasoned just right, and a thick, rich sauce that ties everything together.
It’s comfort food at its best, ideal with crusty bread, rice, or a fresh salad on the side.

Tips

  • For more depth: Add a splash of red wine before the broth.
  • Make it creamy: Stir in 2–3 tablespoons of heavy cream or sour cream at the end.
  • Veggie boost: Add carrots, peas, or green beans in the last 10 minutes of cooking.
  • Spice lovers: Add chili flakes or cayenne pepper for a kick.

Correction

  • Don’t rush the potatoes—if they’re undercooked, the dish loses its charm. Keep it on low heat until they’re perfectly tender.
  • Avoid too much liquid. The sauce should be rich and slightly thick, not watery.

Enjoy

Serve this comforting ground beef and potato dish straight from the skillet while it’s piping hot.
Pair it with warm bread, rice, or a crisp salad, and enjoy a simple yet satisfying meal that tastes like home.
