Spanakopita Recipe


Spanakopita

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 125 ml (½ cup) milk
  • 125 ml (⅔ cup) vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Fresh spinach, chopped
  • Feta cheese, crumbled
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 sheets of filo dough
  • Poppy seeds
  • 1 egg yolk

Preparation:

  1. In a bowl, combine the egg, milk, vegetable oil, water, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Lay out one sheet of filo dough on a clean surface. Brush a thin layer of the egg mixture over the entire sheet. Repeat this process with the remaining two sheets of filo dough, layering each one with the egg mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the chopped spinach and crumbled feta cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Evenly spread the spinach and feta mixture over the layered filo dough.
  5. Roll the filo dough from one end to the other, creating a tight strip. Cut the rolled dough into triangles and place them on a baking sheet.
  6. Brush each triangle with egg yolk and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
