Candy-making combines simplicity and affection to create a delightful treat. This Turtle Candy blends sweet and salty flavors, resulting in an irresistible grab-and-go snack.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
- Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Cook the Caramel: In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir constantly until the mixture reaches a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, continuing to stir. Remove from heat and mix in the vanilla extract.
- Form the Caramel Drops: Using rounded tablespoons, drop spoonfuls of the caramel onto the prepared baking sheet. Allow the caramel to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Chocolate Coating: In a medium bowl, melt the chocolate chips and butter together. You can do this in the microwave in short bursts, stirring in between, or over a double boiler.
- Dip and Decorate: Dip each caramel into the melted chocolate and place it back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the Turtle Candies to cool completely before serving.
